Our popular Beaches
We really are spoilt. Our rugged coastline gives you the choice of golden sand, hidden coves and rock pools a plenty for the kids to explore ... as well as many beautiful costal paths throughout.
We all know Newquay being famous for the surfing ... but what's closer to Clowance?
The resort location makes Hayle (North Coast) our closest beach of only 7 miles away (a 15 minute drive). Situated on the opposite side of St Ives Bay, Hayle is famed for it's 'three miles of golden sand'. The beaches start at the mouth of the estuary, regarded as an international quality bird-watching spot. Following the cresent of the beach brings you to the first lifeguard patroled beach - Hayle Towans. Slightly more sheltered from the Atlantic waves and at nearly 2 miles long there's plenty of room for the whole family. Next is Gwithian, popular with both locals and holiday makers. This is one of the most popular surfing beaches in the area and holds a decent sized swell. The Hayle sands end with Godrevey Point with the lighthouse on an island about 50 metre out to sea. The point is national trust owned, as is the car park, and the place to watch our Cornish seals.
On the South Coast we have Marazion beach as a favourite and only a 9 mile (20 minute) drive. Mostly sand with a few pebbly patches, Marazion beach is an ideal family beach with safe, clean water, lifeguard patrol, the convinience of the nearby town and a good children's playground located on the green behind. Perhaps the most striking feature is the view over to St Michael's Mount. Situated just offshore the island castle makes quite an impressive backdrop and you can walk over to St Michael's Mount at low tide along a stone causeway. Reception have daily tide times available.
The St Ives group of beaches include the small sheltered beach of Porthgwidden, the large family beach of Porthminster and the long sandy beach of Porthmeor Beach, overlooked by the Tate Gallery, a popular surfing spot and also good for families. Carbis Bay is just around the corner from St Ives - a large sheltered sandy beach suitable for families. At lower tides it is possible to walk past the headland at the eastern end of the beach to Porthkidney Sands. All beaches have plenty of facilities close by.
The website link gives information on over 150 beaches around the Cornish coast and our Reception staff will always have one to recommend as well as giving daily tide times.
